Speaking of Steve Jobs, here’s my reply to a coworker who mocked me for converting her to Apple computers (she just got a MacBook and is looking at iPods):

Yeah, soon enough we’ll get you a prayer mat with an Apple logo on it, and five times a day you’ll bow your head toward Cupertino and praise Jobs.

And then there is the popular turnout.  In Lake County, Indiana, outside of Chicago, there was a 95% voter turnout.  I have never heard of such a number.  People were saying the norm is around 20-25%.  Obama helped draw out nearly every single registered voter.  That is what this man brings to the table.  It is incredible, and I am happy to be a witness to it.

I do not know when I was thinking, which is odd as it is such a rare occurrence these days.  I am sure it was while taking a shower.  Good thinking happens in the shower.

Anyway, I was thinking about this election and my kids.  My son is heading right into five, my daughter is less than two months old.  When I was born, Ronald Reagan was President.  My first understanding of politics was when I was six, I think.  I have a vague recollection of being in first grade and gathering that our President was George Bush (now the first).  So that would have been about in 1989.

Back to my kids.  I don’t mention to my son that there is an election underway, a big one, probably because I don’t want to have to explain Bush II to him.  I am just going with the assumption that Obama is elected President (with 90% turnout and 70% of the vote, of course).  By the time my daughter becomes politically aware, Obama’s second term could be wrapping up.  My son would not yet have a memory of a white man being President.

As time went on, though, I began to realize that Obama was offering a radical change in tone, mode and template–someone who finally spoke to America as if he wasn’t addressing a roomful of severely retarded eight-year-olds. That alone seemed to offer enough “hope” to merit support for him.

Overall, it is still a different theme.  The text style is nice, but the size is a tad small, so you can Ctrl – + (or Cmd – + on a Mac) to up the font size in your browser.

The only thing is that I’m not a big fan of the clutter at the top of posts with the tags and categories.  I ususally feel those are better served at the bottom of a post so you can click related categories after reading the full text.  Still, not too bad for the time being.  I’ll be fiddling with this stuff much more this summer when I think I may invest in my own web hosting service, rather than WordPress’s free service.

As a small update on me personally, last night I did a five minute presentation project for my psychology class.  I analyzed George Costanza’s personality through the lens of Albert Bandura’s loci of control.  It was also my first attempt at using PowerPoint to assist my speaking.  Normally I would just speak with notes, but in this case, I had video evidence of his behavior, so I succumbed to the beast.  (And yes, you all know I’m a very pro-Apple man, but the classroom computer was a Windows machine, so I sacrificed a chunk of my integrity for my education.)  As a personal reassurance, I still found the program cumbersome, and I only made five slides.

Oh, I got 50/50.

So, I am reassured.  And I am going to keep on not caring about what is said on television.  And I am going to keep hoping, and keep voting for the person I feel moves us past the two decades of Bush and Clinton.

Oh, and as a PS to Mr Sullivan’s post, the Weather Underground does sound like a 60s/70s band.

How wonderful for those older folks to remember with solidarity all the victories and successful endeavors of Ms Clinton.  I know she has done so much for helping the Gay community, the poor, the whole of World Peace.  And let’s not forget about women.  Playing the gender card, claiming the boys are picking on her, crying for the camera (make sure it was zoomed in to her better side!), and being married to the right guy has all done so much for the advancement of the female half of our population.

Nevermind that winning without a consideration of what group or minority one belongs to is an actual victory.
